Harley-Davidson
Around 2023–2024, the company began implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including employee training programs, supplier diversity goals, and support for LGBTQ+ events. These moves aligned with broader corporate trends, but for Harley’s core audience, they sparked controversy. The controversy has had financial consequences, with Harley’s stock declining more than 25% since the announcement.
In response to the mounting pressure, Harley-Davidson announced in August 2024 that it had dismantled its DEI department months earlier, in April. The company stated it no longer uses hiring quotas or supplier diversity spend goals, and it withdrew from the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
